Let's Get Serious - My Spring Uniform
Instead of going for spring fits, I’m trying to create a spring uniform….
As I approach my 40th year on this Earth, I refine and adjust what I want to wear. I ask more of my wardrobe than I ever have. My garments need to carry me through the ups and downs of emotions, my depression when things aren't going well, and my joy when they are.
This sounds like a lot and maybe even a bit of a head-scratcher, but it's not. I feel like I can take on the world when I'm wearing a nice fit. I am more confident and the person I want to be.
Lately, I've been trying to challenge myself to create a uniform this season—something to focus my style. Look, I honestly have no idea what I'm doing, but I don't think I'm ever going to have great style unless I drastically reduce my options. But it's okay; these are strong opinions, loosely held.
Lately, I've been looking for some sort of combination of workwear and tailoring—a dressier trouser with an oversized vintage denim jacket worn as a shirt over a white T-shirt— with a nice little bucket hat.
Footwear - I don't want any footwear that looks like they were designed after 1940. This means that the only thing I'm wearing is canvas rubber-soled shoes. Sperry CVO’s (1935), Chuck Taylor’s(1934), Superga 2750 (1925), Springcourt G2’s (1936).
Sperry CVO
Beams+ did a sick collab with Sperry I’ve been wearing a lot lately. (They also did it in Navy)
Trousers - Kind of dressy, but casual enough to fart in. That’s almost my personality if you had summarize my vibe.
Yoke - Black Linen Wide Trousers - These have a nice flow’y vibe that keeps things a bit dressy, but the linen will keep you cool. Also it’s ok to wear black trousers - it is.
If you prefer the beige version, check these (they’re also on sale at Haven rn)
Yoko Sakamoto -Brown Easy Pants - I’m becoming more in favor of elastic waist pants. I don’t know why I used to be so against it. Btw Yoko Sakamoto is a IYKYK brand, that I find myself consistently adding to my wardrobe. Their fabrics are incredible and most are developed exclusively for them.
Auralee Washed Finx Chino - The silhouette on these are impeccable. I tried them on when I was in Tokyo recently and regret not picking them up.
Denim Jacket as a Shirt - Yes, I meant what I said. You have to commit to the jacket as a shirt—it's on for the day. Don't give up! This is how you look dope.
Sugarcane Chore Coat - I love how it’s beat to hell. I’m more ok with buying things that already look worn. I used to not be but, whatever.
Fullcount WWII Type 1 - Part of the Osaka 5 (OG Denim folks), and I’ve always been into their “vintage” washes.
3sixteen Chore Jacket - 3s has been on fire the past few years and if you want to earn your battle scars the hard way - go with their nep denim.
3sixteen Type 3 Stonewashed Denim Jacket - Yes another 3s piece, but can you blame me?
White T-Shirt I want something that isn’t too heavy. You want that nice hybrid of an under garment but ok if you break that sacred commandment of jacket as shirt.
3sixteen Pima Pocket T - THE COLLAR STAYS TIGHT
Standard H Carrera T-shirt - Also become a top contender for perfect white t that’s a hybrid “undershirt” yet, ok on its own.
Velva Sheen Crewneck T-Shirt - Hard to beat a classic Velva sheen
Bucket Hat It’s bucket hat season…
Beams+ Rip-Stop Jungle Hat - I picked one of these up last year and wear it all the time. Mine is a bit faded now too.
Cableami Bucket - Made in Japan and it’s got a removable cord too. You’d be surprised at how often you’ll use the cord tho.
Congrats, you too have achieved the dope spring fit. Now get a nice lil cold brew and you win the day/week/season.
Do the Velva sheen shirts fit TTS and do they shrink? I usually wash cold but like to not have to worry about it.
