Father's Day Flexing
Might as well be the things you're buying for yourself
Ok. First off, the irony is not lost on me that the majority of people sorting through this are men and fathers looking for things to send to their loved ones (or just buy for themselves) for Father’s Day.
That’s ok. In fact, it’s great.
My dad referred to Father’s Day as a “greeting card” holiday. He was never a huge fan of gifts, but he often loved getting things he would have bought for himself anyway.
Things like sweet tea, a night out with my mom, or a t-shirt.
So in honor of my late Father. Here’s some of my favorite stuff I’d buy or have bought for myself.
Lapo’s N/A Negroni
Look, alcohol isn’t great for you. I absolutely love The Zero Proof and love throwing back one of these while I research watches online or listen to a record. Yes, I could mix one up myself, but why bother? It’s in a can. It’s great, and then I recycle it.
Swingtop Lighter from Craighill
Everything from Craighill is overengineered and often completely unnecessary - which is why I love everything they make. This lighter is so cool and doubles as a fidget that lights candles or whatever else you’re trying to light.
Lacoste Original Fit Polo Shirt
ORIGINAL FIT ONLY. Please God, dump your “slim-fit” polo and deposit it in the swagless pile. I tend to buy one or two of these every year and wear them nonstop. Wash and hang dry. The in-between colors are not very forgiving. Pick out colors you’d see at a country club in 1985.
Sunscreen
I hate buying sunscreen. I hate forgetting to put it on, and I hate not having it even more! I prefer La Roche-Posay because, to be honest, most drugstore brands are fine. I don’t need to flex with my skincare. Or better yet, just having decent skin is the flex now. Supposedly, Kelly Slater’s Freaks of Nature sunscreen is really good, too, but I haven’t tried it
Tembea Book Tote
These days, I read more than ever. And my stack of books just sits there like a rainbow column of clutter. It infuriates me. Scratch that, it used to infuriate me until I got a book tote. I keep my books in there, and it’s also great for hauling a bunch of kids’ books back and forth to the library. Sometimes the best things are the things you never need, but once you get them, you realize you always did.
SABLO Espresso Cup
I really enjoy sipping my morning espresso out of a nice ceramic mug. I get a good 2 mins of peace while I contemplate my day, and while I love Heath Ceramics, these mugs from SABLO do a fine job.
That’s it. If you’re like, “Dang, this sucks - I was hoping for this or that.”
Use the list you made in your head, or better yet, write someone a card by hand in your handwriting. Share a memory with them from when things were different, and look at it with another person. It’s nice.
Happy Father’s Day

We need to bring back drinking! When considering the social / stress related benefits and advancements from ai, the impact is negligible. Give yourself a real negroni for Father’s day!
I want to love the Lacoste polo but I always find the tails too short.
